How To get to Holbox Island Mexico

How to Get to Holbox
Location: The Island of Holbox is located 40 minutes by ferry off the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico and approximately 3 hours from Cancun International Airport.
If you are traveling from outside of Mexico then you will need to fly into Cancun International airport and from there you have a number of options available to you.
1.To get to Holbox by Rent a Car - When you arrive in Cancun there are numerous car rental companies, however we recommend you book one before you arrive and you will also need a map. From the airport head North to the town of Chiquila, approx 2 ½ hours drive. When you arrive in Chiquila there are numerous parking lots by the ferry terminal (which is easy to find as Chiquila is a tiny town) leave your car one of these lots and take the ferry to Holbox, approx. 60 pesos. Once on Holbox Island get a golf cart Taxi to your Hotel.
2. To get to Holbox By Taxi - You can get a taxi from Cancun Airport to the town of Chiquila, at the time of writing this article (July 2007) the price is 700 Mexican pesos, or around 70 dollars. Then take the ferry to Holbox.
3.to get to Holbox By Bus - Take a bus from Cancun International Airport to the downtown bus terminal, approx 25 pesos. Then from there take another bus to Chiquila, less than 100 pesos and then the ferry to Holbox Island.
4.To get to Holbox By Air - If you want to arrive in style to Holbox then there is a company in Cancun that flies to the small airstrip on Holbox in a 5 seater Cessna plane. Not the most economical way of getting to Holbox, but definitely the quickest and most stylish way.
